Task
Crew manually applies liquid grout under the footing of installed tool pedestals in the clean room.
Exposure
Workers must pour liquid grout into forms that have been built around the pedestal feet that are attached to a concrete deck in a confined space with limited access. The grout is premixed and is brought to the task in 1 gallon buckets. Crews then step down into the limited space and must bend over to pour the grout into the forms. It takes many buckets to fill just one form and the pedestals have at least two separate forms to fill. This is a common task and takes hours to complete.
Intervention Process
The crew designed a trough using a section of aluminum wall stud. One end is notched to allow it to be secured onto the metal form. Both ends are angled to facilitate the liquid grout to move easily, by gravity, down into the forms. This allows the worker to deliver the buckets of grout to the frames without having
to bend down to the floor eliminating awkward posture.
Materials
The four foot aluminum wall stud was scrap from other projects on site.
