H-block, A-block and other open-ended blocks allow masons to place blocks around rebar, pipes and other vertical obstructions rather than lifting it over the obstruction. Lifting blocks of any size above the chest increases the risk of lower back and shoulder injuries and use of an open-ended block is a method that eliminates this risk.
