Task
Testing filters in the ceiling of the clean room using a shield and a wand overhead.
Exposure
Working overhead requires the worker to hold the tools above their shoulders in an awkward posture above the neutral position of the arms, and to be continuously looking upward at the ceiling, hyper extending the neck in a static posture.
Intervention
Applying handle extensions to the tools lowers the workers hands and elbows to a more neutral posture below the shoulders. The handle extension reduced the awkward posture of the shoulders, however the hyper extension of the neck remained. Increased stretching throughout the shift helped with the static posture and hyper extensions of the neck.
Material
1" PVC was used to extend the handles.
