Task

Installing fan filtration units into a pre-hung grating system in the ceiling.

Exposure

The unit was lifted by one worker on the floor to a second worker on a ladder, who then passed it on to a third worker who put it in place. Each unit weighs 60 lbs and required overhead lifting. This put them in awkward postures and exposed them to forceful exertion as well as repetitive motion due to the number of units to be installed.

Intervention

The workers secured a sheetmetal platform across the forks of a genie lift to set the unit on. They then raised the unit up and into an open frame next to where the unit was to be placed. The two man crew, working together on ladders, were then able to lift the unit off and place it into its frame. This resulted in minimal material handling, forceful exertion and awkward postures.
