Task

Crew must install large pipe into overhead rack on the roof of a building.

Exposure

Installation of the pipe to an overhead rack required the crew to work from man lifts and ladders, forced into awkward posture and using forceful exertion.

Intervention Process

They reviewed the process, identifying areas where exposure to musculoskeletal risk factors existed and brain-stormed solutions. By installing the pipe cradles onto the rack, they were then able to bring all of the pipe into position using a crane and eliminating the need to physically handle it.

Materials

Materials did not change. Only the process for installation changed.
