Task

Hanging exterior 4' x 8' gypsum board sheathing from a man-lift.

Exposure

Applying gypsum board to a multi-story exterior wall requires lifting and attaching the board at or above shoulder height, exposing the worker to musculoskeletal risk from awkward posture, forceful exertion and repetitive motion.

Intervention

Working on an adjustable man-lift, when used appropriately, allows for working within a neutral range by adjusting the lift to keep work below shoulder height. An adjustable lift does not guarantee the worker will use it correctly. Ergonomic training with an appreciation and understanding of awkward postures is necessary as well.
