Task

The crew was required to hang drywall within a very narrow space on 10-12 foot high walls.

Exposure

Lifting and installing 96 lb., 4' x 8' drywall panels from the deck of a scissor lift and over the rail, resulting in awkward posture and forceful exertion.

Intervention Process

The crew built a fixture made with unistrut, 90 degree brackets and U-bolts. The fixture was attached to the toe plates at the base of the scissor lift platform. The fixture holds the drywall place as the lift raises for placement of the drywall. The fixture can be moved from one side to the other allowing it to work off both sides of the lift. The room was very narrow, but did accommodate a scissor lift. This process for handling the dry wall resulted in the reduction of forceful exertion and awkward posture.

Materials

All materials are easily and readily available on site. * DGI does not recommend the modification of a scissor lift without approval of the scissor lift manufacturer.
