Task

Workers must remove a sticky vinyl protective covering from wall panels before assembly.

Exposure

It is necessary to pull and tug to peel off the vinyl by hand, exposing the worker to forceful exertion, awkward posture and repetitive motion.

Intervention Process

Using a 6' piece of conduit, a tool was created to peel off the plastic. The conduit was bent to make a handle for leverage so the worker could then roll the main portion of the conduit over the plastic and peel it off. Placing the long portion of the tool at one end of the panel, they connected the plastic material to the conduit. Then they rolled the tool across the panel peeling the protective covering off. They can do several panels before removing the plastic from the roller type tool. This proved to be an efficient and less strenuous method.
