Task
Drilling holes into overhead steel "C" beams.
Exposure
The material being drilled requires three to five minutes for the drill to penetrate, resulting in exposing the worker to the associated musculoskeletal risks of awkward posture, static posture and forceful exertion.
Intervention
Worker created a fixture to assist in holding the drill in place overhead for the three to five minutes it takes to drill through the steel beam. It was built on-site using a thirty six inch length of one inch pipe, capped at both ends, all-thread, one inch ring hanger and a three eights inch beam clamp.
