Task
Ironworkers must pull pre-bent pieces of rebar together and tie them with a length of wire to stabilize the vertical column infrastructure being pre-fabricated in the lay-down yard.
Exposure
In the process of tying the rebar together, repetitive motion, forceful exertion and awkward posturing of the wrists and arms is required, often causing fatigue and over exertion injuries and occasional "Knuckle-busting".
Intervention
After several attempts at cutting, bending and welding pieces of rebar in the shape of a fork (which they eventually called a "Pickle Fork"), the Ironworkers forged a tool of the right size and shape to move and hold the various pieces of rebar in place allowing them to tie with much less exposure to potential wrist, arm and hand injury.
Material
Made from scrap rebar on site.
